Summer To-Do

Can you believe summer is nearly half over? I feel like I haven’t done most of the summery activities that I love this time of year. Here’s my must-do list for the second half of summer.

  • Go to a county fair (preferably the Boone County, Kentucky fair!)
  • Go to a horse show
  • Go to the zoo
  • Go to an antique fair
  • Go to a farmer’s market for fresh and local produce
  • Go putt putt golfing
  • Eat a big soft serve ice cream cone
  • Go to Mug ‘n Bun
  • Make sangria
  • Get a tan (I WISH)
  • Give myself some  lemon juice highlights
  • Spend a day at the lake
  • Go for a night swim

What’s on your must-do list for the last months of summer?

Snow White Summer

white sundress 2012

White may not be “my color,” but I really like to wear it. So clean and refreshing, this Gap little white dress (LWD) is a staple in my summer closet.

I wore this outfit for our Saturday night date to Joe’s Crab Shack. White + cracking crab don’t mix, so you can bet I was a dork and wore a bib!

To add a little color to my white dress and bag, I tied my favorite summer scarf to my purse for a splash of blue. Plus, it never hurts to have a light scarf on hand for that evening breeze!

Do you have a LWD for summer? White is so crisp, pristine, and classic amongst all the bright and bold hues that are trending right now. A LWD is perfect for a date night, a lunch with friends, and any summer soiree (just don’t wear it to a wedding!). It’ll offset your sunkissed skin, and you’ll get so much mileage out of a perfect LWD.

Pare Down for Summer

First, check out this interview I did on the Eve’s Addiction Jewelry blog! It’s about my favorite summer trends and fashion inspirations!

I’m the type of person who’s always going, going, going. I like to get into the office early. Coffee is a must. At home, I’m usually working on something – if not this blog, then a pile of laundry. On weekends, there’s always something productive to do.

But during summer, I tend to step back a bit and relax more. I relish the opportunity to make a pitcher of iced tea. I love pouring just-steeped hot tea over a huge glass full of ice and enjoying it on the deck.

This also translates to what I wear.

One of my favorite things to do during summer is to let my hair air-dry and lighten in the sun.  I tend to pare down my makeup, too: a light foundation, some bronze eye shadow, a swipe of mascara, and a brush of bronzer.

And during summer, there’s no more comfortable outfit than a breezy sundress and some broken-in sandals.

You already saw a preview of this outfit, but this is the sundress I wore to Phil’s graduation this past weekend. We drove windows-down on our way out to Athens, which is just as good as a hair dryer! It was hot, hot, hot that day, but this dress kept me cool and comfortable all afternoon.

Do you relax a little bit more than usual during summer?

I recently gave my closet the once-over and removed all the clothes I hardly wear. I trimmed things down and got rid of a couple garbage bags of clothes. Would you believe it if I said I still had clothes from high school? I donated some, gave some to a friend, and plan to  consign what’s left. It feels so good to get that “dead weight” out of my closet!

So, do you know what empty closet space means?  I got to do a little shopping! Over the weekend, I got some things from JCrew, Madewell (my new favorite store!!), and Kohls. I can’t wait to show it all to you.

The shirt above is from Lauren Conrad’s line for Kohls. I found it for $12 on the sale rack! I really like the colors and the floral pattern — and how it’s so flowy and comfortable. Plus, it matches my light pink Gap pants perfectly!

I wore this outfit yesterday. I had just a half day at work, and then I ran around town taking care of some errands and such. When Christopher got home, we headed out to the Monon Center in Carmel and we walked around this pond. The water was so clear and pretty, and you could see the fish swimming around.

I’m starting to get that restless summer feeling — like I should be on summer break right now. Luckily, the weekend is near :)

Sunny Day Dresses

When it’s steaming hot outside, there’s nothing more comfy than a breezy sundress. I wore this outfit on Sunday, which turned out to nearly be a scorcher. Christopher and I enjoyed a lunch at Bub’s Burger’s in Carmel (where I had delicious red cream soda), and then we headed to the park. I wore a sundress from Forever21, a vintage head scarf, and my sandals that I got in Australia. At the park, I kicked off my sandals and waded in the creek. The cool water felt so good on the hot hot day!

To get this ‘do, I teased my hair at my crown and twisted the sides back. I pinned it into place and secured it all with my vintage head scarf. To get the cute little twist on the scarf, I twisted the ends together until it started to coil around itself. I tied the ends to keep it all in place.
