Where I wore it: To church on Sunday, and then to Home Depot and the grocery store.

Well, this week I’ve come down with either a nasty cold or a case of spring allergies. Either way, it’s icky, and I’m pretty sure I’m grossing out the people who sit in the cubicles adjacent to mine at work. All I’ve been wanting to do this week is sleep, sleep, sleep, and I’m hoping I make a full recovery before the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Reading Kinfolk magazine. Chris got me a subscription to Kinfolk for my birthday. Because it comes out quarterly, I’m trying to slowly go through the spring issue so I don’t have to wait as long for the summer issue!

Listening to South of France. I used to work with the female singer in this band, and I’m loving their album, Another Boring Sunrise (find it here). Their music is in this Modcloth video!:

Watching House of Cards on Netflix. I didn’t think I’d like this show, but man is it good. Talk about a show with a cast of characters that you love to hate.

Eating Fruttare popsicles. You guys, these are so good. I got the mango flavor – YUM!

The Ohio River isn’t exactly the crystal clear water of my dreams, but there’s something about being near the water that makes me so, so  happy. Maybe that’s how we ended up buying a house on a “lake.” (I use the term lake loosely here, because it’s more of a large pond. But I do love it, pond scum and all.)

I wore this outfit during our Madison trip the other weekend for a walk down to the river to skip rocks and search for shells and “sea glass.” I scooped up quite the collection and plan to put it in a small glass dish to serve as a memory of our trip.

Isn’t this vintage dress darling? I got it from a fun Etsy shop called Tush Vintage. She has quite the collection of vintage pieces and she updates frequently! In fact, I treated myself to another one of her dresses with some of my birthday money. I can’t wait for it to arrive!

You got a sneak peek of this outfit yesterday, but I love this dress so much I thought it deserved its own post. Ever since I laid eyes on the Lilly Pulitzer You Gotta Regatta print, I knew it was meant to be mine! I waited and waited, and it finally went on sale on RueLaLa. Coincidentally, this was just a couple days before Lilly Pulitzer passed away. After she passed, I read up on this legend, and I found it fascinating that she created bright and bold prints because she worked at a juice stand and wanted to camouflage juice stains on her clothes.

I wore this outfit on Saturday for our adventures in Madison. I thought it was the perfect birthday girl outfit because it’s such a stand-out print! Also, Madison is known for its own regatta, which takes place each summer. I’ve never been, but would LOVE to attend!

On Sunday, Chris and I went to an estate auction at the fairgrounds. It was a first for both of us, and I can definitely say that we now have the itch to go to another!

The auction was run by Another Addison Auction, a family-run business that’s local to our town. I’ve seen plenty of auction scenes on TV (anyone else out there watch Market Warriors on PBS?), but it’s so impressive listening to the auctioneer sell the items in-person. The family that runs the auctions acts like such a well-oiled machine, and they were able to get through item after item really quickly.

I took this video so you all can hear the auctioneer. The guy who’s keeping track of the bidders on the butter churn kills me!

At the auction, we were lucky number 188. After you won an item, you simply raised up your number card, and they had ladies on computers keeping track of how much each bidder purchased.

Chris got some nice tools for himself, and our grand total for the day was $40. A steal considering one of Chris’ tools alone is probably worth $40. Others at the auction were getting awesome deals on furniture and farm equipment. They actually paid a guy a dollar to take a super 70s-looking sofa set. Ha! If any of the furniture had been “our style,” we could have gotten quite the deal!

Where I wore it: To church on Sunday! And then out for our weekly Sunday activities like grocery shopping and going to Home Depot (Yes, going to Home Depot is weekly for us.).

I had a wonderful weekend. I took a vacation day on Friday because Karin and I went to the Taylor Swift concert. We decided it would be fun to make a day of it, so we spent the afternoon shopping, eating dinner, and then venturing downtown for the show. Not going to lie: I was kind of embarrassed to admit that I was going to the concert, but it was actually really, really good. Our seats were good, and Taylor definitely put on an entertaining show. My favorite parts were when she sat down with her guitar or the piano and just sang — no dancing or crazy costumes. She did this for songs like Mine, Everything has Changed (Ed Sheeran sang with her), Begin Again, and All Too Well (SO, SO good).

She also imparted words of wisdom to the audience throughout the show that I think everyone — from the screaming 13-year-olds, to the 20-somethings, to the parents with kids — could learn from. Things like: Life is unpredictable; you can be scared or embrace it. Heartbreak helps you grow into the person you are today. No matter how old you are, what your career is, or who you are, there will always be mean people who say negative things about you (to your face or behind your back). And don’t get back together with your terrible ex (ha!).

Karin and I were joking that we’ll be pushing 30 for Taylor’s next tour, but we’ll be there :) .

The rest of my weekend was spent doing yard work, which doesn’t sound fun, but Chris and I actually have been having fun with it. We went to an awesome greenhouse on Sunday, loaded up on plants, and then created a raised bed garden. (Stay tuned for more details!)

Where I wore it: Furniture shopping and errands running on Sunday! Turns out furniture shopping is exhausting.  I was so tired when we got home that all I could muster the energy to do was watch Julie and Julia and eat dark chocolate-covered blueberries on the couch.

I’m really excited because today is my Friday! I’m taking a vacation day tomorrow, and Karin and I are going to the Taylor Swift concert, just like we did a few years back when we were 22 (It’s fate.). I know Taylor has a lot of critics these days, but I’ve been a fan since her sundress and cowgirl boot days. I’ll admit that I miss the Tim McGraw and Our Song Taylor Swift, because there was something so relatable about her. But I’m still really excited about the concert, especially because I’m going with Karin!

We’re making a day of it with an afternoon of shopping, dinner, and anywhere else the day takes us. This little three-day weekend is just want I need.

Where I wore it: Running errands on Saturday. And to a vintage car show that we stumbled across!

On Saturday, it was windy and chilly, so we decided it would be a good day to start working on painting our spare bedrooms. The rooms’ previous occupants were a couple of kiddos, so the rooms were painted very brightly (see them in the house tour). We decided we wanted to make them neutral, so we headed to good ol’ Home Depot, where we seem to be spending all of our money lately. (By the way, I LOVE Home Depot and hardware stores. Anyone else feel the same way?!) For one of the rooms we picked out a soft grey, and for the other we chose a color called “Sheer Scarf,” which is basically white with some soft blush undertones.

When we got home, we got to painting, and man is it hard work! We got one coat finished on Saturday and finished the second coat yesterday.

I wish I had more eventful stories for you guys, but housework has been consuming our lives ever since we moved in! I’m excited, though, because this upcoming weekend we have friends coming over — our first time entertaining in the new house!

Gordmans + The Weekend

Where I wore it: Out to dinner Friday night with Chris and his friend, Alex!

Ahh, I’m writing this post on Sunday, outside on our deck, on a gorgeous warm and sunny afternoon. This is a perfect spring day!

Have you guys ever heard of or shopped at Gordmans? I hadn’t heard of them until last year when they opened their first location near Indianapolis. It’s kind of like a TJMaxx or Marshalls in that they sell name brands at discounted prices. (Score!) Gordmans sent me a $25 gift card, so I headed out there a couple weekends ago to pick out some things, including the bright and striped peplum top in the photos above. I also got the adorable owl trinket below, which matches our Fiestaware perfectly! He’s currently holding some Cutie’s and a lime for me. I was really impressed with Gordmans home decor selection. Trust me, it was really hard to keep my shopping budget in under $25! Gordmans is growing like crazy, and they’re opening new locations all over. You can see if you have Gordmans in your area here!

How was your weekend? Mine was really good, but a lot of work. We tackled a bunch of yard work on Saturday, raking up leaves, picking up sticks, sowing grass, fertilizing the lawn, etc! On Sunday, we did more yard work, swept, mopped, and tackled the remainder of our boxes that needed to be unpacked. Things are really coming together! I think our next big projects will be taming the side yard and painting the spare bedrooms.

Here’s to hoping this nice, warm weather sticks around! Come back on Wednesday for a tour of our house!

We have a sweet mama duck nesting in our side yard. I can’t wait to see the ducklings!

Thank you for all of the new house well wishes this week. Like I said on Tuesday, we are just thrilled and the excitement hasn’t worn off yet. This weekend will be spent tackling our to-do list. Chris has several tasks slated for the exterior of the house, while I’ll be unpacking the remainder of our things, getting everything organized, cleaning, and I would like to plant some annuals (if it’s not too early…I’ll have to ask my mom about that one…haha) I’m hoping to get everything presentable enough to post a “tour” next week.

Other than that, I’m hoping Chris and I can take a break from our chores to explore our new area a little bit. We’re still in the Indianapolis area, but now outside of the city. We live fairly close to the historic downtown of our new city, which looks pretty charming! There are some antique stores, little shops, local eateries, a spa, theatre, and a historic home to tour. All right up my alley!

Where I wore it: Does this Eiffel Tower sweater look familiar? That’s because you’ve seen it on here before, but in a different color. Have you ever liked an item of clothing so much that you got it in more than one color? This sweater is so comfy and cute (and currently on sale) that I couldn’t resist!

So, today is the first day of spring. It’s hard to even be excited about this, considering the high for today is forecasted to be 30 degrees. This cold weather is definitely not helping the case of the “blahs” I’ve had this week. I’ve been under-the-weather and feeling icky since Sunday. The only remedies that seem to be working so far are hot mugs of peppermint tea, couch time with Chris and our cats, and watching my favorite shows in the evenings. (Anyone else watch the season finale of PLL last night?!)
