A Little Winter Fashion Inspiration

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a Winter Wonderland Fashion & Beauty Inspiration demonstration that was hosted by Tricoci University. For me, it’s easy to get into a jeans/boots/sweater rut during winter, so it was amazing to see gorgeous winter wears created by local Indianapolis designers. My friend Molly also attended and we learned how to mix up eye shadow, how to achieve the perfect top knot, and we watched a fashion show. So fun!

Here are some highlights from the night:

top knot how to

Molly got a perfectly tousled top knot! Here’s how the stylist did it:
1. Gather your hair in a messy high pony.
2. Tease that hair!
3. Coil your teased hair around itself into a “knot” and secure with an elastic.
4. Pin it into place with bobbies.

Pare Down for Summer

First, check out this interview I did on the Eve’s Addiction Jewelry blog! It’s about my favorite summer trends and fashion inspirations!

summery maxi dress

I’m the type of person who’s always going, going, going. I like to get into the office early. Coffee is a must. At home, I’m usually working on something – if not this blog, then a pile of laundry. On weekends, there’s always something productive to do.

But during summer, I tend to step back a bit and relax more. I relish the opportunity to make a pitcher of iced tea. I love pouring just-steeped hot tea over a huge glass full of ice and enjoying it on the deck.

This also translates to what I wear.

One of my favorite things to do during summer is to let my hair air-dry and lighten in the sun.  I tend to pare down my makeup, too: a light foundation, some bronze eye shadow, a swipe of mascara, and a brush of bronzer.

And during summer, there’s no more comfortable outfit than a breezy sundress and some broken-in sandals.

You already saw a preview of this outfit, but this is the sundress I wore to Phil’s graduation this past weekend. We drove windows-down on our way out to Athens, which is just as good as a hair dryer! It was hot, hot, hot that day, but this dress kept me cool and comfortable all afternoon.

Do you relax a little bit more than usual during summer?

What’s in My Makeup Bag?

what's in my makeup bag

I’m always really interested to know what makeup products people use. There’s just so many kinds and so little time! Lately, I’ve been wearing really natural makeup — nothing too fancy or heavy. The products above are my daily, go-to routine.

  1. Essie — Eternal Optimist — I bought this shade of Essie for our wedding, and I liked it so much I finished it up and bought another.
  2. Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage – SC-1 — This concealer is ah-mazing.
  3. Maybelline Falsies Mascara — I’m not really loyal to any mascara. I just get cheap drugstore stuff.
  4. Dior Addict Lipstick — Miami — I also bought this lipstick for our wedding. It’s such a pretty shade!
  5. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation — Rose Ivory — This foundation provides great coverage and looks very natural. And, it lasts all day!
  6. Ulta Eye Liner — Smoke — Like mascara, I’m not particularly loyal to any eye liner.
  7. Laura Mercier Eye Shadow — Buttercream — Like I said, I’ve been wearing really natural makeup. This shadow just brightens my eyes a little bit.
  8. Sonia Kashuk Creme Blush — Petal 01 — I love creme blush! It gives a really natural pop of color!

Vanity Tour — Trinket Tuesday

makeup vanity

One of my favorite places in our little apartment is my makeup vanity! It’s so nice to have a place where I can sit down to get ready every day — and where I can store all my makeup and primping products. I got the vanity two years ago for Christmas from my parents. My dad helped me recover the stool’s cushion to a powder blue and gold damask fabric so it would match my antique vanity box.

makeup brushes holder

I keep my makeup brushes on the vanity top in an antique toothpick holder. This little trinket is the perfect size and shape to hold the brushes I use daily. Next to my brushes is a little silver picture frame with a photo of my old cat and also a little Occupied Japan figurine (remember my other Occupied Japan trinkets?)

On the other side is my little red clay cat, as well as my perfumes. Speaking of, I’m running low on perfume — suggestions?

quilted satin vanity box

In the middle  is an antique quilted satin vanity box that sat in my great grandma’s vanity! I use this to hold the products I use daily.

And above the vanity is my Degas ballerina reproduction. I love this little piece of art, and it pulls together my girly corner of the room very well. :)
