DIY Perfume Bottle Illustration

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of cute fashion and beauty-related illustrations decorating the homes of some of my favorite bloggers. They’re simple sketches of favorite products or designs, and they look so perfect sitting on a dresser, vanity, or bedside table!

I have little-to-no artistic talent, but I discovered that it’s pretty easy to DIY your own perfume bottle illustration. It’s as simple as tracing your favorite bottle! Here’s the illustration I made of Chanel N°5:

I chose Chanel N°5 because it’s classic! And the bottle has a very basic design with simple lines. Here’s how I did it:

  1. I had Chanel N°5 (the image linked above) open on the computer with the screen as bright as it could go. I put a piece of computer paper against the screen and lightly traced the outline with a pencil. Don’t push too hard and damage your screen!
  2. After I outlined the bottle with pencil, I took the paper off the screen and went over my tracing with a fine-tipped black Sharpie marker. It’s helpful to use a ruler for really straight lines.
  3. Next, I colored in the bottle using a gold yellow shade to match the hue of the perfume.
  4. After I finished all the tracing and coloring, I cut the illustration out to fit my 4-inch-by-4-inch frame.
Voila! A cute and easy Chanel perfume bottle illustration:

It turned out pretty cute, and it’s sitting on my dresser right now. You could do this DIY with many different things like nail polish,  simple shoes, or handbags. I think I’m going to try my hand at making Essie nail polish bottle illustrations next.

If you try this DIY out, let me know what you illustrate!

New Look!

Ta da! Tulle and Trinkets has a new look!

I’ve been bubbling with excitement ever since I officially decided to give my blog a new look. And I couldn’t be more excited about the finished result. Do you see Hermes up there in the header? And my charm bracelet and Modcloth booties? I found a lovely illustrator who custom made my header so that it’s personal and shows off what Tulle and Trinkets is all about.

I have to sing the illustrator’s praises, of course! I first discovered Kristina through Matchbook Magazine — an online magazine full of girly whimsy. Kristina contributes some of the illustrations in the magazine, and she has her own illustrating business, EmmaKisstina. After following the links over to her Etsy shop, I discovered that she sells adorable (and affordable!) illustrations of the stuff that a girl’s dreams are made of.

So, I got in touch with her — and before I knew it, we were working out the details of my new header. First I sent her some inspiration — photos of my trinkets, pictures of Hermes, and ideas from around the web. She then sent me font ideas and her first sketches:

I was already beyond thrilled at this point because even in black and white they were really cute! She then made some colored sketches:

So cute! And I really wanted to include Hermes in the header because he makes so many Tulle and Trinkets appearances, so she drew up this adorable illustration of him:

The resemblance is striking :)

The whole process was fast and easy, and I would recommend her work to anyone. I plan to purchase some of her wall art for my makeup vanity area — I just need to narrow it down because I want them all!

What do you think of my new look?!
