Sunny Day Dresses

When it’s steaming hot outside, there’s nothing more comfy than a breezy sundress. I wore this outfit on Sunday, which turned out to nearly be a scorcher. Christopher and I enjoyed a lunch at Bub’s Burger’s in Carmel (where I had delicious red cream soda), and then we headed to the park. I wore a sundress from Forever21, a vintage head scarf, and my sandals that I got in Australia. At the park, I kicked off my sandals and waded in the creek. The cool water felt so good on the hot hot day!

To get this ‘do, I teased my hair at my crown and twisted the sides back. I pinned it into place and secured it all with my vintage head scarf. To get the cute little twist on the scarf, I twisted the ends together until it started to coil around itself. I tied the ends to keep it all in place.

’70s-Hued Outfit

This week is trotting by, as usual. Christopher and I have been making an effort to not be totally lazy bums in the evenings. So, instead of watching TV until bedtime, we’ve been working out, reading, and re-learning Spanish with Rosetta Stone. And I don’t know if it’s related to our new activities, but I’ve been sleeping like a baby this week. Zzzzz.

I felt kind of 1970s when I wore this outfit on Sunday. Okay, maybe that’s way off, but the yellow + orange + brown had a 70s vibe to me.

This brown sweater and I have a love-hate relationship. Love because its sleeves are actually long enough for my lanky arms, and it’s really warm. Hate because it’s super itchy, so I always have to wear a shirt underneath it (and even then it’s still itchy).

I wore a vintage square scarf to hold my hair back. I folded the scarf diagonally into a triangle, then folded it in half twice, which still left it fairly wide. I tied it at the front of my head, tucking the ends underneath.

I had my hair in a high bun, which has been my go-to style lately. It’s just so easy and non-fussy to flip my head over and coil a high ponytail into a topknot!

Although my head scarf is vintage, you could get a similar look with any square scarf!

How to tie a Scarf: Oversized Knot

I love how big, chunky, oversized scarf knots look. I made this how to tie an oversized scarf knot graphic for a blog post at work, and now it just may be my favorite knot. It’s as easy as 1,2,3!

Just loop the scarf around your neck once, pull one side through to create another loop, and slide the other side through. Fluff if up as large as you want!

And, in case you think this pink polka dotted scarf is as cute as I think it is, you can find it at scarves.net!

How to Tie a Scarf — Four-in-Hand

As a Scarves.net Girl, I pick up on some pretty sassy and creative ways to wear scarves. Recently, my coworker Stacie showed me a way I’d never tried: the Four-in-Hand Knot. It looks really complicated and fancy, but it’s really a matter of just four steps! I’m going to show you how to tie this knot!

Right now I’m in love with this tribal-printed pashmina scarf from work. I love the print, and it’s the perfect length and fabric for twisting and tying.

How to tie a four-in-hand scarf knot:

  1. Fold the scarf in half and put it around the back of your neck. The ends should be on one side and the loop on the other.
  2. Put one of the ends through the loop.
  3. Twist the loop.
  4. Put the other end through the loop.
  5. Puff and adjust the knot. Voila! A cute and creative wear to tie that scarf!

I wore this scarf and outfit for some day-after Christmas shopping. I was on the hunt for a cute furry jacket, but no luck! But, Chris and I did get some fun board games for half off.
