Wall of Mirrors, Part II — Trinket Tuesday

Why can’t every weekend be a three-day break?? My weekend included lots of lounging, some delicious meals, a little shopping, and lots more fun. But more on that later :)

On Sunday, I woke up early and drove down south to meet my mom at the Lawrenceburg Antique Fair. The rain held off long enough for us to see everything.

We had walked around almost all of the booths, and I was losing hope that I would find anything that I wanted, when I saw this sweet mirror that would be a perfect second mirror for my wall of mirrors! (Check out my wall of mirrors inspirations HERE!) And my new mirror was only $15! I love its scalloped edges and floral etching.

I thought it would be goofy to have two mirrors randomly placed on a wall, so until I get more I hung this McCoy love birds planter on the wall between them. I got this piece from Salt Creek Antiques & Gifts during our trip to Metamora.

I think I’m well on my way to a nice collection!

Did you have a nice weekend?

Not to judge a perfume by the bottle, but I’m way more inclined to fall in love with a scent if it comes in a pretty little package.

I’ve made a point to save my perfume bottles, because I think when I’m old and grey it will be a wonderful way to remember different times in my life. I can tell you exactly when and where I got each of my perfumes. And isn’t it funny how a scent can remind us of so many memories?

What perfume[s] do you wear? Do you judge a perfume by the bottle? And do you save your perfume bottles when they’re empty?

Do you have an all-time favorite color? I always feel like I have favorite-color ADD because one week I’m loving pink, the next yellow, the next orange. However, I think if I had to choose just one favorite hue, it would have to be blue.

What’s your favorite?

Candle Inspiration — Trinket Tuesday

Although I love burning candles year round, I definitely think cooler weather makes me think to light them more often. Yesterday evening was cool and a little breezy, so we opened our windows. I lit all the candles in our apartment and the breeze + the scent + the warm look of the flames was so nice!

I think candles make great decor, especially when grouped together with other candles and trinkets. It makes for very elegant and romantic decorations.

Here’s some gorgeous candle displays to inspire your decor.

I love the idea of candles in your fireplace, via Cupcakes and Cashmere. I’m going to try this this winter as long as our cats leave the candles alone!

Key West Sailboat — Trinket Tuesday

key west sailboat trinket souvenir

Considering my affinity for trinkets, it shouldn’t be a surprise that I love vacation souvenirs. When I was younger, choosing the perfect trip memory was always a big deal to me…so much so that I think I often spent more time at the gift shop than the actual attraction :) .

Most of my souvenirs from trips past are still in my old room at my mom and dad’s house, but I do have a couple of my favorites here in Indianapolis.

My favorite of all is this sailboat from Key West. I went to Key West with my mom and dad for winter break five years ago. Our journey began in Miami, and we made the long drive down to mile 0 in Key West! While there, we did all the touristy things — climbed lighthouses, went to Earnest Hemingway’s house (LOVE those 6-toed cats), and ate at the original Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville. We also did a lot of walking, kayaking, seafood eating, and swimming, but one of my favorite parts of the trip was simply taking in the waterfront scenery. I loved walking around marinas looking at all the gorgeous sailboats. To remember the trip, I got this ceramic sailboat from one of those mega-Florida souvenir shops. My favorite part is that it opens up and has a little secret compartment with an anchor inside!

These days, my favorite souvenirs are unique ones (not usually found at a really touristy shop). I like to purchase an antique from a vacation destination, jewelry, or maybe a nice bag or item of clothing.

What’s your favorite vacation souvenir?

what to put on a bar cart

I already featured our bar cart on here, but it was before we had our nice camera and there have been a couple updates and additions since then!

In case you didn’t see the post the first time, Chris and I searched high and low for a vintage cart for a long time. They weren’t particularly hard to find, but they were all so expensive. We finally found this metal, wood, and glass cart at Midland for the right price.

Since we moved to our new apartment, the cart sits in our dining room, and it’s perfect for entertaining. Admittedly, we don’t usually have too much liquor on hand, but when we have people over, it’s fun to stock the cart with whatever beverage our company likes and to use our nice glassware for entertaining them. Our hope is to one day have a special nook in our house to keep the cart (particularly on a hard floor…it’s precarious rolling this Lenox and Riedel-filled cart around on carpet!).

Anyone else have a bar cart or a special place for storing glassware?

Most-Comfy Dress. Metamora.

grey sundress outfit

What I wore: My most-comfy summer dress from Old Navy. It may not be my most trendsetting or exciting, but it’s been my go-to favorite for three summers now and it’s what I wear when I just want to be comfortable. I could live in it! Also – Minnetonka moccasins for walking.

Where I wore it:

Milk Glass Medusa — Trinket Tuesday

Besides being so quaint and picturesque, Metamora’s antique shops are a main attraction. While Chris was out fishing on Saturday, I walked and antiqued so much that my feet were literally sore and blistered on Sunday. (totally worth it)

My favorite antique shop was Salt Creek Antiques & Gifts, which had a lot of pottery, ceramics, and glassware. The whole shop was very nice and organized well (can’t say that was true for all of Metamora’s shops). The owner of the shop was really nice and personable. You could tell he really likes pottery!

One of my purchases at this shop was this really cool milk glass head vase. My first thought was to use it as a planter for a houseplant that I’ve been needing a home for, but I decided against that because it has no drainage.

So instead, I filled it with a bundle of fuchsia garden roses, and I loveeee how it looks! Don’t you think it’s kind of Medusa-esque?

weekend trip metamora indiana

This weekend was pretty much too good for words. On Friday, Chris and I drove down to Metamora, Indiana to spend a little weekend away. We did a lot of walking, sightseeing, antiquing, eating, and Chris got to do some fishing. We stayed at the Mistover Inn, which was nice and tidy and perfect for a mini vacation. Metamora is such a picturesque and photogenic place, so expect a week of Metamora photos :) .

We’re savoring the last few hours of the weekend watching the Olympics and cuddling with our kitties.

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, too!

Sometimes all an outfit needs is a fun and quirky detail to make it more than just ordinary. Vinca is created by Amanda Dimova, an Austin-based jewelry and accessory designer who makes these fun and totally out-of-the-ordinary statement pieces. Vinca uses lasers to cut these cute adornments out of several mediums like acrylic, wood, and leather.

Vinca was nice enough to let me choose a couple pieces to try out myself. I chose the cute pearly cat ring because it’s so playful and you know I love cats. I got the wooden “diamond” spike bracelet because it’s half sweet, half edgy (and kind of ironic?). And I couldn’t resist the gold squirrel hair clip — because who could?

Hop over to Vinca and check them out! There’s something for everyone — from glittery deer to moustaches, cupcakes, unicorns, and foxes. And any Austin native will LOVE their Texas line.

What’s your favorite Vinca piece?

Stay tuned to see these whimsical little accessories incorporated into my outfits :)
