Saturday morning, bright [err, actually it was rainy] and early, my best friend, Karin, and I got on the road and made our way down to Nashville, Indiana for a little girls’ getaway. Some quality hangout time was long overdue, and let me tell you, we had a blast!
The drive was scenic, and it felt like it went by super quickly, probably because we were chatting up a storm the whole time :). When we got to Nashville, we found our home for the weekend, the Olde Magnolia House Inn — which was quaint and lovely! We dropped off our luggage and headed out on foot to start exploring Nashville.
Lunch was our first stop! My mom kept telling me that while in Nashville, we must eat at “the old white building on the corner.” She couldn’t remember the name, but a quick pass through town made it obvious that she was talking about the Hob Nob Corner Restaurant. My mom was right, the Hob Nob had great, home-style food. Karin and I got the same thing (naturally) salads and potato soup!
Next, it was time to shop! Nashville is a cute little town full to the brim with shops selling arts and crafts, antiques, boutique clothes, and gifts. We went into all the shops that caught our eyes.
I ended up purchasing a tulle skirt (!) and a little plastic macaron trinket box.
Karin got an awesome vintage Virginia Slims sweater and a perfectly tacky souvenir tee.
The weather didn’t totally cooperate with us on Saturday. It rained off and on, but not so bad to keep us inside. However, a mid-afternoon bubble tea break was just what we needed to get inside and out of the rain. It was Karin’s first bubble tea experience, and I think she liked it!
For dinner, we took our innkeeper’s recommendation and ate at Out of the Ordinary. Karin had the burger, and I had the lasagna. I didn’t take any photos…oops! After dinner, we were on a mission to find some unhealthy snacks to enjoy back at the inn. Luckily, there are candy shops on every corner. The Nashville Fudge Kitchen caught our eye because of their sweet and salty offerings. We each got a chunk of fudge (me, mint chocolate – her, peanut butter chocolate) and a bag of cheddar popcorn (YUM).
Our walk back to the Inn was when things got wild. The heavens opened up, and it started POURING on us. We only had one umbrella, but it was raining sideways, so it didn’t do any good anyway. Flustered by the rain, and directionally challenged even with perfect weather, we totally took off running in the wrong direction. By the time we made it back to inn, we were soaked! I kid you not, you could wring water out of my maxi dress. At least it made for lots of laughs :).
Warm robes, our fudge and popcorn, and an Orange is the New Black marathon was the perfect way to end our day.
The next morning, we headed back up to Indianapolis. Nashville was a perfect place for our little girls’ getaway. I’m ready to go again!
