Worth the Splurge

worth the splurge

I’m all about saving money and cutting corners where I can. However, there are some things in life that just deserve a good splurge.

Boots — With boots, you can either buy a new and inexpensive pair every year that wear thin and the soles comes loose. Or, you can buy one nice leather pair that will last you for years, assuming you care for them properly. It’s an investment, really.

Candles — I burn through candles like crazy, and I know the difference between a nice candle and a cheap one. Cheap candles burn black smoke and stain your walls. A nice candle, on the other hand, smells better, lasts longer, and burns cleanly. My all-time-favorite candle is Capri Blue Volcano from Anthropoligie.

Hosiery — A nice pair of tights or hose will last you for years, whereas a cheap pair might not even last you for a day. I’ve had my JCrew tights seen here and here for a year and a half, and they’re the most comfortable and durable pair I’ve ever owned!

Sheets — Chris and I got some nice sheets as a wedding gift, and boy are they softer than those el cheopo sets I used to pick up at Target. Once you start using nice sheets, there’s no going back!

Foundation — When it comes to makeup, I only splurge on foundation. A good foundation will make your skin look flawless, and it won’t mess with your complexion. I use Laura Mercier, and I highly recommend it. (Check out what else is in my makeup bag.)

Champagne — I’m no connoisseur, but I know that cheap champagne = a headache. And while I’ve never had any truly pricey champagne, I splurged for Chris’ birthday and got us a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. It was delicious and nothing since has compared!

What’s worth the splurge to you?

  1. I wonder, have you tried the Revlon Colorstay foundations or Loreal’s True Match? They are great! But I too put skin as the priority for makeup, so I understand why you would spend more on foundation.
